Yoga Avalon

with Jo Longhurst

Jo Longhurst teaches Yoga in Avalon on the Northern Beaches at the Avalon Yoga Co-op and at the Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Her classes are for all abilities and are tailored for students individual needs. As a fully qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher Jo uses props to ensure students are always working within their ability, are maintaining correct posture and are not in danger of extending themselves causing injury.

Typically Jo will assess a students ability and get them to do yoga asanas that are within their capability. Also students can be assisted with the use of yoga props and given individual adjustments to correct their alignment and posture. As a result, Jo’s classes are unlike most yoga classes as students may at times be doing different things and be given individual attention.

Yoga at Avalon Surf Club

Beginners Yoga Avalon

All lessons are open to all abilities. Therefore if you are a beginner or have any level of yoga experience you can attend any of Jo’s classes. Above all Iyengar yoga allows for teaching students with mixed abilities. Because the teaching is more attentive to individual need and with the use of Iyengar props everyone can do similar poses without feeling any sense of inferiority.

Private Yoga Avalon

Some beginners prefer to take a few of Jo’s Private Yoga lessons to make them feel a bit more confident and comfortable before joining a group class. This also allows Jo to fully assess the students ability and have an informal chat about Yoga goals and how best to move forward. Beginners who are confident can join any class straight away.

It is very important that you tell Jo about any medical conditions or injury before you do a yoga class. Jo can then tailor the class to avoid any aggravation of the condition or risk any further injury.

Other classes include Yoga for Kids, Workplace Yoga across North Sydney and a Monthly Iyengar Rope Yoga Workshop.
